12 Questions to Break The Ice

Youth Specialties
June 18th, 2016

Maybe you have a lot of new students showing up to youth group this summer. Or maybe there are just days that you have a hard time getting students to speak up. Whatever the case may be, it’s always nice to have a few go-to icebreaker questions in your pocket. We asked our Facebook audience to share their top question… Here are 12 ideas for questions to break the ice and get the conversation going with your students:

  1. If you had one day to do anything you want without consequences, what would it be? I like this one because it really shows the mind of your students – their struggles, temptations, passions, interests…it’s a great place to ‘start’ when it comes to their heart.
  2. If your toenails could taste like any flavor, what would it be?
  3. Praise, prayer request or Bible passage read this week. Gives students a chance to share what’s going on in their lives in the past week.
  4. “Are you here because you want to, or because you have to?” Provides an honest starting point.
  5. If you had one wish what would it be?
  6. What’s one high and one low from this week?
  7. Which creature has a greater chance of existing: the Loch Ness Monster or Bigfoot? Why?
  8. What was the best and worst thing that happened today?
  9. What is holding you back?
  10. If you could combine two animals, what would they be and why?
  11. If you were a kitchen utensil, what would you be and why?
  12. If you could add a class of your choice to your high school experience, what would it be?

What is your go-to ice breaker question?
