All I Need is One!
A new year has arrived and the anxiety of not creating resolutions is just as prevalent as the edginess of creating the perfect resolutions. We find ourselves vacillating on the biblical justifications of goal-based living compared to the simplicity of creating a myriad of “I hope God works it out” goals. In the end, there is a laundry list of would-ah, could-ah, should-ah with out any did-ahs.
I contest that the greatest attribute to the lack of did-ahs is the profusion of plans without unified purpose.
Let’s walk slow…it will make sense.
Our success as leaders in 2017 is hinged on understanding our main focus is to remain focused.
The prolific psalmist and king, David, put it this way, “ The one thing I ask of the Lord — the thing I seek most— is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, delighting in the Lord’s perfections and meditating in his Temple” (Psalm 27:4).
Famed author Thomas Fuller penned,
“A good archer is known not by his arrows but by his aim.”
When we endeavor to create a major goal and pursue it with relentless tenacity, we will recognize that everything else we want to achieve will fall in line.
If you want greater attendance in your youth services, greater commitment from your students, and greater investment from your volunteers build on the one thing that connects them all. Jesus.
The bible teaches us in Matthew 6:33 that we are to passionately pursue God’s kingdom as our premiere intention. It’s elementary math. God first plus plans second yields results.
I know what it is like to be burdened by expectations. Yet I also have experienced the righteous return from relying on God first. Live what you teach. Make knowing God more intimately as your daily focus. God wants you to have it all because He placed all of those desires in you.
Pursue Him
Put Him first
Place your trust in Him
I believe that in 2017, God is going to complete the plans you have been desperately attempting to finish. Your work is not in vain and your God is not about aimless effort. This is your year to get it DONE! Sounds cheesy but go with me…Seek God’s face more than His hand and you will receive the presents from knowing His presence.
